Introducing Embedded Chat: now in Teamwork Projects and Desk

Posted by: Gráinne Forde /

Before you read this, take a quick glance at your browser bar. How many tabs do you see?

Less than 5? You’ve definitely achieved Marie Kondo levels of organization. We’re jealous.

But if you’re like the majority of us, during your working day you probably have 20+ tabs open at any given time.

While it might feel like having multiple browser tabs open helps you to get more done, in fact, the opposite is true. This habit is actually catastrophic for productivity, as research has shown that multitasking makes you lose (rather than save) time.

It’s time to get it together and our latest feature release is here to help.

Introducing Embedded Chat, our integrated instant messenger which allows you and your team to communicate from within any Teamwork product. It provides a quick and effective way to create conversations with your colleagues or chat directly about something without needing to navigate away from the page you’re on.

Embedded Chat is designed to help you make decisions faster. Now, you can engage with your coworkers while you work on a Teamwork Projects task, or create a quick conversation to discuss that tricky ticket that you just opened in Teamwork Desk.

If you’re using Teamwork Projects or Teamwork Desk and haven’t discovered Teamwork Chat yet, here’s what you’re missing out on. Teamwork Chat gives your entire team a platform for instant communication. No matter where in the world you’re working from, Teamwork Chat keeps everyone in the loop, for smoother, more effective collaboration.

Best of all, it integrates with Teamwork Projects, allowing you turn decisions made in Teamwork Chat into tasks in Teamwork Projects instantly, and it’s 100% free to use! Check out some of Teamwork Chat’s innovative features that will help your team to collaborate more effectively in this blog post. If you want to enable Teamwork Chat on your site it’s super easy — find out how here.

Once you have enabled Teamwork Chat for your Teamwork site, enabling Embedded Chat is easy. Simply click the Settings cog in the bottom left of your Teamwork Chat window.

Thank you!! Wow I’ve needed this feature for so long and I didn’t even know it till y’all delivered it.

Hi Gabrielle,

We’re so glad to hear that embedded chat is just what you’re looking for!

So is this 100% free forever, or just for 30 days? It really isn’t clear between this blog post and the rhetoric you get when you go to the pages that provide instructions as to how to enable it.

I will be very happy if the chat history could be recorded in each project page.
Kind of log of messages in the project.
So in the future we could easily trace back the conversation within specific project in the project page.

I hope this won’t make Teamwork web pages even more bloated than they already are. It’s horrifying the 13 GB which five or six open Teamwork tabs can blow up into in just a few hours.

Teamwork should really consider lowering its footprint. It would be a great shame if some of Teamwork’s longest standing users will be forced to look elsewhere for faster and less resource intensive applications.

Emma Ross

Hi Keith,

Embedded Chat is not available from the Projects or Desk app. This is not something we have planned. However, we do have a dedicated Teamwork Chat app for both iOS and Android and can be downloaded here.

Hello, I am having issues seeing where this instant messaging system is located. Do you guys have a tutorial or a “how to access” guide?
